MORNING TEA-BREAK with INTERMEDIATE

This morning Anita went to the supermarket to buy the ingredients to make some sandwiches. She bought many things: mayonnaise, ketchup, cheese, ham, olives, bread, eggs, soda and "Cheetos". At 10.05 we all came to the Alianza to start the class. First of all, we separated the bread on some plates; at the same time Anita and Franco were cooking the eggs in the micro-wave. In the classroom Jessica spread the mayo on the bread, put the slices of ham and cheese. She asked us if anybody didn´t like olives or eggs. Then, she put all the ingredients on the bread and put a slice of bread on top of the sandwich. We also invited teacher Vero to join us. She took a lot of pictures and she filmed us during the preparation. Teacher DANI gave us a glass of soda, and Franco and Juan served the "Cheetos". When we finished everything we enjoyed the sandwiches...MMM DE-LI-CIOUS!!! ☺

"THE CRAZIEST LOVE STORY"

One of my Teens High Basic is carrying out a Project for some months now. The objective of the project is to work with music once a week and through music to enlarge our vocabulary. Therefore, we gathered all the new words that we have learned and we noticed that all of them were related to love and relationships. So, last class they had to create “the craziest love story” using some of the words. Then the class voted and here it is the chosen one:

Can you guess the meaning of the words in bold from the context?

Once upon a time there was a gorgeous woman called Victoria. She worked in Juan’s house. He was a wealthy and nice man. Victoria was deeply in love with him. As the time came by they became a couple. One day, she asked him to marry her, but he refused and he said that it was too soon. One week later she went to her mother’s house to visit her, but as soon as she got there, she realized she has forgotten her cellphone and she returned to look for it. She went to her room and she saw two shadows, it seemed Juan with another woman. She was shocked, she shed a tear and immediately she ran away. She became crazy and she promised herself that she wasn’t going to give up, until she solves the situation. Some days later, the other woman appeared dead in her house….

Review:Life as we know it

The name of the movie is " Life as we know it". The stars of the movies are Holly Barenson and Eric Messter. Their real names are Katherine Heighl and Josh Duhamel.

The story takes place in Atlanta, Georgia. It tells the story of a woman and a man. They are the godparents of Sophie, the daughter of their friends. They try to have a date but it turns into a disaster. The parents of Sophie die in an accident, so Holly and Eric have to take care of her.

They move to a house to live together and at the biginning Holly and Eric have a bad relationship but after some weeks they fall in love and the movie ends with them kissing.

The movie was successful because I like the story it tells and the photography is great.

Toy Story 3 Review

Hi everybody, welcome to the toy`s world. The characters are Woody, Andy, Buzz lightyear, Jessie, Rex, Hamm. They are the principal characters of this movie, the voices of some are: Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Tom Hanks as Woody, Wallace Shawn as Rex and Joan Cusack as Jessie.
The movie was made in Walt Disney Pictures and written by Michael Arndt, John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Lee Unkrich, and directed by Lee Unkrich.
The film´s genre is : Animation, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Comedy, Kids & Family. Some people raised an eyebrow when Toy Story 3 was announced. Well now that it’s done, we were very grateful to Pixar people who already has a few years in the business.
In this movie you have emotions, excitment, Andy´s toys go on the road and out, then is when the adventure comes in…the story is about a boy called Andy who grows up and goes to the university. He has to decide what to do with his toys (throw them away or put them in the attic ). By mistake Andy´s mother put them in a plastic bag to throw them away. But the toys can escape and go to a toy store, there are many toys that welcome them but others want to kill them because they are jealous.
At the end of the story the bad toys die and Andy´s toys can go home with him again.
We liked the movie because the story is interesting funny and you laught a lot. We felt very sad but happy at the same time.

What were we all able to do at the age of 12 months?

His name is Gregory Smith.Born in 1990, Smith could recite books at 14 months and complete math problems at 18 months. He zoomed through elementary school, finished course material for six grades in one year (he skipped third grade altogether).

He conquered his high school curriculum in less than two years and enrolled at Randolph-Macon College at the age of ten and graduated cum laude. At the age of 14, he began studying for his PhD at the University of Virginia.

Smith is also an activist, having organized humanitarian aid projects in East Timor, Sao Paolo, Rwanda and Kenya.. This young man travels the globe as a peace and children’s rights activist. He is the founder of International Youth Advocates, an organization that promotes principles of peace and understanding among young people throughout the world.

He has met with Bill Clinton and Mikhail Gorbachev and spoke in front of the UN. For these and other humanitarian and advocacy efforts he was first nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 12 and has been nominated three times since then.

“In my heart, I hope for so many things to happen,” Smith said of his efforts for peace. “I want to work on so many things, and discuss solutions with people, but realistically, I know I can only do so much. So I try to reach out to other people and encourage them to take part. One drop doesn’t make an ocean, but with enough drops, you can begin to make a change.”

MY OPINION: I was searching in internet and I found many child prodigies but Gregory Smith impressed me so much, since besides his intelligence, he promotes the world peace. He organizes humanitarian projects to help people who are suffering hunger and violence in the whole world. He takes this commitment and he uses his brilliant mind not only for his successful studies, but even to create projects that help people to live better.

Akim Camara (b. 2001-) is a violinist who began playing at the age of two.] Akim is a mixed racial child of mixed African (paternal) and German (maternal) descent. At this young age Akim took up violin lessons under instructor Birgit Thiele at the Marzahn-Hellersdorf School of Music. Akim was at this point still in diapers and speaking in unintelligible toddler gibberish yet he was remarkably able to remember music heard and the names of all orchestral instruments. Moved by his remarkable memory and natural "ear for music" Akim's teacher began instructing the toddler twice a week in 45 minute sessions. Akim participated enthusiastically and, due in part to his remarkable memory, the toddler was learning unbelievably fast. After six months of this fairly-light training regimen little Akim had his debut performance in December 2003 at the age of 2 in a Christmas concert "Schneefloeckchen, Weissbroeckchen" put on by the Marzahn-Hellersdorf School of Music.

Birgit Thiele and the music school principal, Gudrun Mueller, messaged Andre Riue, the celebrity Dutch violinist, regarding Akim's prodigious talent through his website. Rieu responded swiftly. He sent a camera crew to Berlin to film little Akim on the violin. What he saw astounded him. Within two weeks little Akim was performing with Rieu in concert at Kerkrade's Parkstad Limburg Stadion filled to near max capacity with an audience of 18,000 people on a toddler-size violin and wearing a tiny custom-made concert tuxedo and dress shoes. After amusing the crowd with a "water trick" toddler Akim then performed Ferdinand Kuchler's violin concertino in G, opus 11 followed by a brief encore performance. Akim excited stage right after two massive standing ovations and roaring cheers.

With his uncanny ability to memorize a musical piece after hearing it only once or twice, Akim's talent developed rapidly and his youthful enthusiasm and passion for the violin only grew. After an interview and appearance on a Danish TV show the young prodigy performed once again with Andre Rieu. This time Akim was performing a more complex piece, Felix Mendelssohn's Dance of the Fairies and atNew York City's Radio City Music Hall, and with an appropriately bigger violin.

In our INTERMEDIATE and ACICE classes students have written some interesting essays about their favorite sports, traditional stories and anecdotes from their childhood.

The following are a few extracts from their essays.

Eugenia Busto.-

My Favourite sport is "FORMULA 1". This is the best and most luxurius discipline of car racing. In this sport the best drivers of the world compete in the most advanced cars made by prestigous brands like Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes and Reanult. Lots of drivers have competed in Formula 1 and made history in it. The man who has all the records is Michael Schumacher because he has won seven world championships and ninety one races. Other legendary drivers are Juan Manuel Fangio, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. My favourite driver is Fernando Alonso, a two-time winner of the World Championship. This year he is racing for the most famous and successful team the "Scuderia Ferrari" and I hope he wins this championship.

My favourite traditional story is Cinderella. When I was a child I used to watch the movie with my sisters. It's really funny to see that the step-sisters fought to see who stayed with the prince. I don't like the part where the step-mother locks her up so she can't go to the dance and meet the prince!I liked the movie very much and the message that teaches you is the best, if you are good person you end with friends and happy, but if you are a bad person you start good, and you end unhappy!The thing that I don't like is that the movie tells you that all the step-mothers are the worst, but this is not true.It's very imaginative, but when you are young it is realy nice to believe that these people like fairy god-mothers exist.

When I was a little child, around eight years old I used to go to school Nº 2 and I used to have lots of friends there. I used to go in the morning and my dad used to take me. At that time I met my best friend, a boy called Ramiro, and we used to do many things together. I used to have girl best friends too, and during recess we used to play all together and eat cookies too. I used to love school, but my friends didn't. At that moment my greatest wish used to be a mom and to become a doctor, but this hasn't changed at this time of my life, I keep wishing for that.
Eugenia Bolatti.-

Last month we were playing the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. As you can see , a lot of people went to this beautiful place to see their country’s selection playing. In this sport you never know, everyone can surprise you… as Uruguay. We didn’t even think that Uruguay could be the fourth best country in the world, but they surprised all of us!!! Is that magical or just good luck…what do you think?
Because of all the passion I think that football is the most interesting and wonderful sport in the entire world. It has the most brilliant players and for once in our lives, everyone watched a football match, even if they don’t like football. So, to conclude, football it is my favourite sport and now it’s a women sport too!!!

"MUSIC as a highway to LEXIS"

Sounds interesting?? MUSIC is everywhere and we are always listening to it. It can help you when you are sad, when you are happy or when you just want to relax; and in our classes it can help our students in a huge way. This little project “Music as a highway to Lexis”, it’s a project that I(teacher Flor )started with one of my Teens High Basic group (Facu, Luly, Floppy, Lu, Ju, Sol, Juanchi, Rodrigo, Luchi, Isa and Agus). The idea is that through music you can learn new words. There are many songs that we enjoy, and by working with them in class, students are able to expand their vocabulary.

Celebrating CHILDREN’S DAY at ALIANZA COLONIA DEL SACRAMENTO

Children’s Day was celebrated on Thursday, August 12 in the afternoon at Plaza Club. Alianza Colonia del Sacramento, working at San Juan Bautista School, organized this event together with students. The call for participation in this significant event for both Alianza and San Juan Bautista School children, had the primary objective of gathering money for TELETON.

It is relevant to highlight that the students from Sophmore class at San Juan Bautista School positively and enthusiastically accompanied the initiative of organizing a party for children from the very beginning, with the following characteristics:

· Intended to gather money for TELETON.

· Integrating children and inviting other schools to participate.

· Including games they created and leaded at the moment of the event.

· Exercised responsibility and tolerance at all times, being aware of the commitment and engagement required for the occasion.

The result of this proposal was very rewarding. We witnessed one of the most integrating events for a totally unified community pursuing the main objective. More than 250 children attended the party, and more than 12,000 pesos were gathered!!!

Drinks and Hot Dogs were sold by La Huerta Taller Protegido (a local institution for disabled teenagers and adults). They benefitted with the money collected from these sales. These teenagers and adults attending the institution also participated with our children and high school students in the games. The pictures are worth a thousand words. Our hearts were pounding of joy!!!

We are truly thankful to everyone who participated directly and indirectly. It was the first time we included parents in our organization and action, making it even more cherished for students and teachers themselves. These are the opportunities we have to prove that together we are able to make dreams come true. On August 12 a dream was made real: WE DID IT!!!
